Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always loved synonyms. I am fascinated by words and language and meaning. I really like to talk and write so naturally words are my favourite currency of expression. Having multiple ways to say the same thing just amazes me. So much choice and creativity in language! I remember my brother passed down his old dictionary and thesaurus set to me (this was back when there was no powerful thing called the Internet that you could use to look up EVERYTHING). I rarely used the dictionary but I coveted that Webster’s thesaurus with it’s tattered green cover.
Talking about Fall is like entering into synonym paradise, it is a synonym addict’s dream place (I’m planning to start a synonym support group, PM me for details). I mean, how many of our other seasons actually have 2 names?! I mean Winter is just Winter but Fall, well Fall can be called Autumn too depending on who you ask.
But that’s just the beginning, this season is synonymous with so many things and each word it shares evokes so many feelings:
Back to School.
Scarf season. Better yet, big, cozy, infinity scarf season.
The possibilities are endless. But wait fellow sweater wearers, while there is that familiar Autumnal chill in the air when we wake up and go to bed these days, there is still plenty of summer sunshine and heat to be had. So before you whip out all your burnt orange clothes and dust off your jean jacket and cozy socks, be sure to enjoy the last of the bright summer produce. This smoothie I have for you today is the perfect transition food. It is simultaneously synonymous with both Fall and Summer. Bright, tart blueberries served in a chilled glass will cool you down. But the spices in the smoothie will remind you of eating a warm bowl of blueberry topped oatmeal before heading out for the day.
You see words aren’t the only synonyms in the world, food is too. I guess it only makes sense that I like synonyms and food so much. You see I really am an addict.
